HPSIG Mission

Healthcare in the US is being increasingly influenced by political and economic forces. Physicians have a unique opportunity (and responsibility) as providers and facilitators of healthcare and as advocates for patients to take an active role in addressing this challenge. Primary goals of DUCOM Healthcare Policy Group include the following:

Primary Objectives:
* To introduce medical students to current health policy issues and politics in medicine.
* To stimulate awareness and informed discussion about healthcare and other such topics that are highly relevant to the health of society, future physicians and their patients.
* To create a forum through which to explore the impacts and outcomes of ongoing changes to the political and economic conditions that underlie healthcare delivery.
* To connect medical students with health policy leaders within and beyond the Drexel community in order to foster interest and facilitate activism and career development.

Actions:
* A series of monthly speakers, panels, debates and lunchtime presentations/discussions
* A website with links to recent articles and current events and an offline bulletin board
* An ongoing healthcare policy journal club or virtual equivalent (online postings, etc)
* A regularly updated healthcare policy contacts database (MD's, policymakers, etc.)
